Cold DM outreach

What is it?

Cold DM outreach is all about sliding into the DMs of people who aren't following you yet, but are clearly interested in the topics and niches you cover.

First, scan Twitter, LinkedIn, and other social feeds for people actively engaging with content related to your newsletter's focus.

See someone who seems to be a part of your target audience? That's your cue to shoot them a friendly direct message.

Don't make it a hard pitch, though. The best cold DMs are casual - you're just introducing yourself and your newsletter in a relaxed, personalized way.

If you run a surfing newsletter, this might be how you'd break the ice with a fellow surfer via cold DM. You don't need to pitch your newsletter right way!

Maybe mention a specific post or topic they engaged with that you also cover in-depth.

And obviously, make it stupid easy for them to subscribe if they're interested by including a sign-up link.

Examples of how to crush it

With over 80k engaged followers on Instagram, Mari recognized the huge potential audience within easy reach.

Rather than hoping to catch their attention amidst the endless social feed, she cut out the middleman and started sliding into their DMs.

According to Mari, taking her newsletter promotion directly to people's DMs has yielded an impressive conversion rate so far.
