Guest-posting

What is it?

The strategy here is to guest-author content for related content sites your target audience already reads and trusts.

It’s a true win-win. The site gets quality free content while you convert its readers into new subscribers for your newsletter.

A guest post from newsletter operator Lenny on a popular blog in his niche.

But don't just blast out generic pitches. Do your research first to understand what the high-traffic websites in your niche are publishing, and put together something that fits their brand.

Examples of how to crush it

Justin Gage

Justin was able to grow Technically, his popular tech newsletter,  by writing a guest blog for Future.com (a tech blog with huge traffic).

The exposure drove a lot of attention. So much so that the article itself went on to hit the first page of Hacker News.

While it’s not clear exactly how many new subscribers all that exposure drove, it’s reasonable to assume thatJustin did pretty well out of the free publicity from two huge sites in his industry.

Lenny's Newsletter

Lenny uses guest posting to grow his newsletter subscriber base in its early days.

His friend Andrew Chen had an established tech and venture capital website, so Lenny published a guest post there.

This led to further opportunities posting with sites like The First Round Review.

These guest posts helped Lenny grow his newsletter from scratch to over 1,000 subscribers.
